Goals were directed by rail courses. Lodging were either unassuming, and frequently undesirable, living houses close to the prepare station, or very much named downtown inns. Voyaging sales representatives, transient laborers, and others on a tight spending plan remained close to the rail station. The well-to-do were transported from the station downtown by steed and-carriage where they would be met by watchmen and taken to frequently lavish rooms.
